Brave Sara’s dream to walk without the help of a cane has been fulfilled

Even my arm is relaxed, not stiff anymore. I exercise every day and walk a lot – says Sara filled with joy.

Destiny has really written the most beautiful pages for the 22-year-old Sara Popović from Dalje. The only wish she had after she had suffered two strokes, was to walk without a cane, and that is exactly what she did after the rehabilitation in the Polyclinic Glavić in Dubrovnik! Her wish, as well as the attitude of the owner of the Polyclinic, doctor Joško Glavić saying that she has a right to hope that neurorehabilitation with robotics will help her in the realization of her dream, has become true.

The public heard about Sara in January of this year after a humble request for helping her raise only 2.000,00 kuna that would help her mother Biljana to be with her in KBC Sestre Milosrdnice during the third operation after the two strokes Sara has suffered. On several occasions, we have written about this girl, and good people responded and provided financial help so they no longer had to worry about whether Sara could go to medical check-ups in Zagreb. As soon as this story has reached dr.Glavić, he offered Sara a free neurorehabilitation with robotics in his Polyclinic, but it was something Sara and her family could only dream about. Two strokes she had, left consequences on her walking and arm posture – to be more specific, her foot was nearly immobile, she couldn’t move her fingers, which has made her life more difficult every day. They knew, and believed, that Polyclinic Glavić was her only solution, but Sara’s family was aware that this kind of therapy was financially inaccessible for them. It didn’t take long for doctor Glavić, known as a big philanthropist, to offer Sara a free neurorehabilitation with robotics. He believed that the devices available in the Polyclinic will rehabilitate the brain, the center of the injury after the stroke. As soon as there was a free place for the rehabilitation in Polyclinic in Dubrovnik, Sara, accompanied by her mother, has started an agonizing, but very well-worth rehabilitation. Three months later she came back to Dalj and right away put her cane aside and said – ‘Even though I was scared of the neurorehabilitation with robotics at first, deep down I always knew that it is a matter of time when I will not need the cane anymore. During the rehabilitation, there have been pain and tears, but I didn’t give up. Not only I walk without the cane now, but also my arm is not stiff anymore and I can put it down next to my body, the action I couldn’t do earlier. There is a lot of exercise and hard work in front of me, but I will not give up, even though I am careful not to force my body too much so that there are no unwanted consequences. I cannot even describe how happy I am that I was able to go through the neurorehabilitation with robotics, because if I didn’t, I am sure I would still have to leaning agains the cane, while at the same time dreaming about being able to walk independently, like I did before these strokes’ – says this brave girl who even more often walks, does exercises and is very thankful to everyone who helped her on her way to the medical condition that she strived to after two strokes and what she was hoping for – starting from unknown money donors , to doctor Glavić and the whole medical team of the Glavić Polyclinic, but also all the good people who, by sharing the post about seeking for the most affordable accommodation closest one to the Polyclinić Glavić in Dubrovnik, once more showed their humanity. The post was shared more than a hundred times and soon after a lady, owner of the apartment only a few hundred meters from the Polyclinic contacted Sara’s family. – ‘Now I am still waiting for an operation in which they will put a replacement for a piece of my scull that they had to remove. I cannot wait for it to finish – says this modest 21-year-old. We keep our finger crossed for her!
